Nikolas Sperounis, of Chelmsford, was an active high schooler, competing on both Chelmsford High School's varsity wrestling and football teams before he was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2021. Less than two years later, Sperounis died from his disease, according to social media posts made by school organizations.

"Nik was one of the toughest, most positive, and athletic kids I have ever coached," reads a post on the Chelmsford High Wrestling's Facebook page made on Tuesday, June 20. "He was loved by everyone. Sometimes things don’t make sense."

A GoFundMe was created when Sperounis was diagnosed with Angiosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer, which received over $127,000 to help his family deal with costs associated with his medical care.

The last update on the GoFundMe website, from February 2022, shared that Sperounis's tumors were shrinking and were not showing signs of growth.

Now, his high school is mourning his death.

"Our condolences to Nik's family and friends during this difficult time. He was part [of our] CPW family," a post on the Chelmsford High School's Facebook page reads.

"Rest in Peace Nik," wrote a commenter on the wrestling team's post. "One of the best kids I’ve ever got to be around, he will be sorely missed by so many."
